Since 2009, Hedley has been rocking out for social change at Free The Children’s annual event, We Day—a movement that empowers a generation of young people to lead local and global change. Today, we are partners—partners in the fight against the cycle of poverty that has crippled communities around the world. Musicians that fight poverty, in other words.

Free The Children, founded by 12-year-old Craig Kielburger in 1995, is the world’s largest network of children helping children through education. Free the Children is a charity and educational partner that believes in a world where all young people are free to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change. The organization’s international projects, championed by the young people we work with domestically, have brought over 650 schools and school rooms to youth and provided clean water, health care and sanitation to one million people around the world.

In the past two years, we have visited Free The Children’s projects in Kenya and India. Our trip to Kenya in 2010 showed us how the passion and motivation we saw at We Day was translated to live projects on the ground. Last summer, we travelled to Free The Children communities in rural regions of Rajasthan , where we once again witnessed the effects of poverty first-hand. It rocked our world. There, we were faced with the harsh reality that many people in impoverished communities are forced to live without the rights we take for granted here—such as health care. We returned to Canada resolved to take a stand and raise funds to help the families we met in the overall region to replicate what we saw in this success story.
